A view from the rough… lots of tree trimming this week

Thinning out and shaping the turning point on 7 fairway.
I removed the oak in the middle to make room for the other two. The tree on the left was only growing out of the one side away from the tree in the middle. The tree on the right was only growing out of the right side away from the tree in the middle. By removing the one in the middle the two specimens can now grow more naturally and become a much more attractive feature for the golf course.
This tree is being removed since the entire tree is only growing out towards the fairway on 7. Not a single branch extends towards the 8th hole. This lopsided formation makes the trees very weak and susceptible to snapping off in a storm.
Thinning the canopy of the trees will allow for more sun to penetrate to the turf below. Bermudagrass requires a minimum of 8 hours of direct sunlight to thrive.
Our golf course architect, Drew Rogers, was out to visit the golf course during our last closure. While he was riding around and taking notes to prepare his construction drawings, he requested the removal of the two black olives next 10 green to create a sight line down 11. Part of what Drew is doing with the golf course renovation plan is enhancing site lines and creating long vistas were possible. As he put it, “Might as well take the trees out and get the benefit of the enhanced view now instead of waiting another 1.5 yrs!”
The golf course is spectacular right now!
Veranda expansion is progressing along nicely. This is looking towards the pool area and you can see the shoe for the glass railing has been installed. The railing and sunshades are scheduled to be installed this week.
Just a quick look from the fire pit area. Landscape install stuff starts next week.
Harley thinks it’s been raining a bit too much!
