Day 5

Things were pretty relaxed today. Fraze mow guys took off to get some equipment stuff straightened out and I was so busy doing office stuff that I didn’t get a chance to get out that much today and take pictures. I’ll take a few pictures tomorrow and post them to let everyone know what’s going on but it’s just more of the same.

Day 3

Holes 6,7,8 have been stripped. That means we have a lot of material that needs to be dealt with.I spent most of the day on a earth mover of some sort pushing piles of waste sod into a mound area between the short game area and the new #6 green’s complex.

All of these spoils will go under the golf course somewhere.
We use detailed maps like this to dictate where to put the strippings. The big numbers indicate the tops of the mounting areas. This is the construction details for the short game / new #6 green’s complex.
My team using our material haulers to move stripping spoils for mounds.
They haul it in and I push it around and rough shape it.
#7 green has been completely excavated and the drain lines have been removed.
8 green excavation starting
The bunkers will be excavated and have the drain lines removed as well

Day 2

Found this after removing the dead sod. Any idea what this spot is from? Answer at the end of the blog…
Cut down the Areca palms around the old pumping station to open up the view. What a difference!
Looking at 6 grn
The new view to 6 grn
Aerial of 6’s green complex.
Look back at 6’s tees before the palms were removed.
7 grn without grass
Removing green’s mix from 7. We’ll build tees with the sand.
7 grn about half excavates
7 fairway drone shot. It is almost completely stripped now.
The business end of the machine doing the sod removal

The answer to the trivia question in the beginning is the white spot is where an old sprinkler head we just took out was. It is white because we already took off the organic s in the soil when we dug up the head.

A view from the rough…

Day one almost in the books. Some sun light still out so co tractors are still working.

Gotta remove all the heads first. These will be sold
When the heads are removed the old pipe is filled with expanding foam so dirt doesn’t wash into the pipes and create sink holes.
Removing sod from 7 fairway and green This was taken around 7 pm. These guys will work til dark and be here before sun up tomorrow.
A view from 6 green to where the new 6 green will be
Lots of debris to haul off
We have work closely with the utility companies as well. We get the majority of our irrigation water from the City of Naples.

It’s 7:30… so that means I’ve been here for 14 hrs. More to come, more fun tomorrow!

A view to no where… few pics so far this morning

Bringing in the heavy machinery
From 5 grn… big machines make light work of obstacles. First order of biz is to clear the area where 6 grn is going. Building is next!
Making crop circles
Actually what we are doing is sod cutting the dead grass around drains. The sod removal machines used for the rest of the course can’t get too close to the drains, so we hand remove the grass
The course is now nude…. We’ve collected all the flags, rakes, tee markers, yardage plaques, ball washers, etc.
